How To: Lose Weight

After checking out an advertisement that I kept on getting on my Instagram feed, I decided to check it out and let you know all of this information below, so you do not have to. Almost all of what I mention will be either word-for-word or a very close summary of what was mentioned in a LadyBoss webinar. The webinar went on for about an hour, and (as all of these 'weight loss' programs tend to do) it ended with a good fifteen minutes talking about different books, apps, and products that you can pay for to lose weight. But, there was some great content in this class, that could help those that did not already know. 

First off, the LadyBoss founder mentioned that we should be able to establish two main goals about losing weight: 

"1. What is my weight loss goal? This is important because it gives us a goal to strive for. Do I want to lose a certain amount by a certain time? Do I want to just look better? 

2. Why do I want to lose weight? This is an intangible, but it explains the tangible goal of the question before. Why is that goal the goal you chose? 

Then, LadyBoss decided to mention some secrets and scams that she has found to losing weight. 

Secret One: Eating More is the Key to Losing More (A secret I have heard from others, not Lady Boss: It is better to eat less, but more often, it is better than eating more less often). There are hormones that burn fat or make you feel hungry. Whenever your 'hunger hormone' is active and telling you that you are hungry then the fat-burning hormone stops. 

It is not about the number of calories, but it is about the source of calories. You need to get the right nutrients in your body. Eat more of the right stuff, more often. 

Secret Two: Learn How to order right when you eat out. Leave off the extras. Check out the menu and decide what you want before you go. Ask for a salad as an appetizer, and leave the temptations away from yourself. 

Scam Three: Carbs are bad for you. There are good carbs and bad carbs. Good carbs include fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, brown rice, potatoes, oats, beans, peas, nuts, etc.

Secret Three: Complex carbs are a must. Without carbs, your brain cannot function effectively.  

Stop trying to manipulate your body. (God created our bodies to help us survive with the right foods and sources.) Stop letting them overcomplicate it and confuse you.

The blocking method: There are four categories (fats, proteins, carbs, and vegetables). You need to have the right balance of all of them to stay healthy. 

Scam Four: Hours of exercise will be the only way to do weight. 

Secret: Using the 'afterburn' effect, gives you faster results with less time working out. The goal is to work out for about twenty minutes using the HIIT workout. Using a HIIT workout, your body can still burn calories for up to 48 hours after the exercise. 

Secret Three: You've been set up to fail at losing weight before you even started. You were told that there is a timeline in where you would get your results. '30 pounds in 6 weeks' is a bad goal. It needs to be a lifestyle change. Do not compare yourself to others because they are different than you. They have different lives than yours. 

Scam Five: You only are making success if the scale numbers are going lower. The Secret: The scale is a liar because it cannot tell the difference between muscle and fat. 

You need to have the right support team to help encourage you when you get caught in a sinkhole because sinkholes are inevitable. 

Recap: 

- Eat using the blocking method so you can lose weight without giving up all the foods you love

- Tap into the afterburn effect and start losing weight with less time commitment 

- Find a support community who are on the same journey to encourage and help you along the way 

It is not enough to just know, you have to take action." 


While there was a good amount of information in this webinar that makes sense and seems to go, there is also a good amount that I do not agree with. For example. while I did not type this up, LadyBoss made it sound like her supplements were the only ones that worked. That her app was going to be the perfect fix. That her book had all the answers. There is not one place that has all the right answers about weight loss except for a book that is nothing about weight loss. It is a great start, but I know that she does not know the answer to this all. 

Through all that I am saying, though, I will let you make the choice yourself.
